Hello everyone,  Today's post is bitter sweet. Its bitter because this will be the last run of a lovely and beloved holiday tradition called "The Baltimore Christmas Special". Its sweet, because I have the great honor to be a part of it one more time. Thanks to co-creator Spencer Humm . If you don't know about it, The Baltimore Christmas Special, previously known as "The Hack & Slash Christmas Special", is a yearly holiday event. This will be its 15th Year running, with no future plans for another one, unfortunately.  It is a live, comedy variety show. It is a family friendly event that features comedy sketches, some stand up, music performances, and so much more. Some of the proceeds of the tickets went to helping build wells to provide clean water to villages, and people were encouraged to bring clothing and canned food to be donated to local shelters and food banks. So in a way, you are actually doing a good deed, by simply enjoying yourself. ...

Great News friends.  I can officially say, that I have finished recording my "Songs of Selenophilia" album, woho. It took a while and I apologize, but a few things have come up on the way. I moved resting palces (but still in Baltimore area), I co-produced Janice B. 's latest album "Mantra" with Maurice of StinkyFace Music , I'm also learning some new Tech skills, like how to program in Python, and Web Development for a side project I'm working on. Also I think I like this image to be used in some way for the album. Its an photo taken of the Supermoon, from Baltimore, by my good friend Rob Hinkal of ilyAIMY , which I think appropriate since this moon album was created in Baltimore, it'll be a full circle type of thing. As many of you know, I have been working on a little EP, which is developing into quite the musical project, and I love it. It started off with me wanted to create a tiny 3 song acoustic EP for me to use to market myself, and it is now developing into a thematic, artistic album, which I'm super excited about. There is one thing different though, I've decided to join forces with my friend and talented producer Maurice Carroll of Stinkiface Studios . Maurice and I have worked in the past on original songs, that are off the beaten path, they always come out amazing. Eliza Shaddad is a Scottish/Sudanese artist, based out of London, she has the most soothing voice on the planet (my humble opinion) and I absolutely love her clever lyrics. This week's highlight is a new friend of mine, Justin Tracy . I met him in Delaware, he's originally from the UK, and lives in New York, so naturally the immigrant gods put our path's together so we would meet. I had a lovely time performing with him, twice in one weekend. The album that I have of his is called "Bangla Motor", and it is complex in its simplicity. His cool guitar finger playing style, with added tabla percussion (Indian tabla that is). It will blow your mind. It was a shiny, bright, warm day, the Sun gloriously beaming on where I stood. I was on a sidewalk, with grass at the end of both sides, as I stood there, observing this warm world around me, I notice something under my meet. I see a few un-alive worms, clearly have been stepped on (hopefully by accident), but there was one long alive one. Part of it was stuck to the ground, the other part wiggling for dear life, I looked at the direction it was wiggling towards and I saw shady grass. I knelt down to one knee, carefully picked it up, I was worried the stepped on part would separate but it didn't (yay), and I placed it on the grass it was wiggling towards. I swear, I have never seen a worm move so fast, as soon as I put it down it dug a whole like a BOSS, and slid right under there, but what I did notice, was that after it was almost all the way through, it stopped for a few seconds wiggling at me, and then it disappeared into the cool grass. I smiled and went along with my day...

This week, Music Monday goes "Dream Pop" with the lovely Adryelle . I have to be honest, I did not know what Dream Pop was, and when I actually heard Adryelle's music I thought "What is this genre!!?" I know, I know, its sacrilegious for an artist to try to look "inside the box", but it happened. Luckily, Adryelle did have a box, and it was filled with shimmering lights and super cool synth sounds! My favorite EP of her's is "The Waiting Room", I listen to it often, but make sure to check out her other albums, and you will hear the shift in her music, its really cool. Enjoy. Today's Music Monday post, I bring you a cultural delight. Khaled Dajani is an amazing musician, and such a lovely songwriter. Originally form Palestine, but has fallen in the love with the sounds of Spain, so naturally he merges those two cultures. I had the pleasure of performing with him several times, I had the honor of having him on my NOVELLA album, all the cool guitar work you hear, as well as the background vocals on "Land of Ornith" is all him. He has also released a beautiful album called " LUCI ", and he is currently working on a new EP. Today's music Monday post is alllll the way from Germany. It is no secret that I enjoy concept and thematic album, both creating and listening to them. Today I bring such an album. An instrumental concept album called " The Fool's Tale " by electronic German artist Martin Neuhold, it is such a pleasant artistic album. I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Neuhold in 2014 on a couple of songs " This Emotional State " & " Jamillah " on his Riding Pegasus  album. I hope you enjoyed this week's post. I knew this was going to happen, it didn't even take me a month, but it has happened. I have 3 new projects that I will start working on this year: 1- A goatFISH album. Sahffi and I have decided to work on a new goatFISH EP, so far we have a full new song, and have started a 2nd one, we shall be documenting this process and sharing it with you all soon. 2- Enchanting Paramnesia  Finishing up the Mosno EP that is being produced be Joe Scala , we took a little break from it due to Joe getting ready for his CD release on Jan/17th. Now I'm thinking of joining forces with a good friend of mine to create an accompaniment book to go with the 3 part poem AND to compose music for each section AND even possibly do some kind of Spoken Word album with it. As a songwriter, I tend to listen to songs differently, and I noticed something. In almost any genre, the best songs, are the ones that have a theme, or a message. They tend to describe either a place, a person, or a situation, and ease you into the world form which the song is coming from. Story telling is an ancient talent for us humans, I would find it difficult to find a culture which doesn't have stories. Some cultures may even have different renditions of the same story or myth. In the past few years I learned something interesting about song writing, I learned that with practice, I can control it, and this goes for any creative talent. I also learned that I can focus my songwriting to particular ideas. In the past, I would only write when the “muse” was kind enough to smile upon me, but now I learned that I can actually summon up the muse when, or if, I need it. Today was so awesome, thank you again to the super creative Joe Scala to bring out some very interesting side of my music, I'm telling you, he's a freaking genius. We worked on two songs today "In This Ritual" & "Awake Your Observer", and he decided that we approach them differently, which was a great decision. Here is what happened. "In This Ritual". This has a more meditative vibe to it, so we approached it in a similar manner. I woke up at 6:48am, with first light, simply brushed my teeth, had some water at room temperature, no vocal warm up or talking or singing of any kind. I drove over to Joe's place with my electric guitar and my tar drum. He had things set up for recording, we laid down the first guitar track, then I SANG the whole song, with my raspy morning voice at one take. It was very interesting, then we added more layers to the song, including acoustic guitar, hand drums, claps, and then I re did the vocals again for t...

This vlog is a bit different from my past vlogs, not in format, but in how it was made. I wanted to document behind the scenes of the first day of shooting for my upcoming music video "Shukran My Totem", which is directed by award-winning Bentley Brown of "Faisal Goes West" fame. My one thousand year old Flip camera is starting to act up, and I honestly didnt want to lung around with me a larger camera which has recently came into my possession,  plus I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet so I'm not comfortable with it yet. Enter Tablet, I use the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet. My tablet is with me most of the time when I'm out, I use it to write down ideas for project, for doodling, checking email, the works. Since it has both a front and back facing camera, it would be perfect for vlogging. So I used it to take all the video for the vlog. When I got home, I wanted to simply download the videos into my PC and edit them like I normally would. ...

Since e release of my concept album NOVELLA: A Love Letter To Culture Clash , and I have been on a creative wave, and I love it. I learned from my 3 year project on "NOVELLA", that I can actually focus my songwriting,  which I didn't know I could. Earlier this year I participated in a lovely creative songwriting friendly challenge called FAWM (February Album Writing Month). Its very simple, you have the 28 days of February, to write 14 new pieces.  They could be music, lyrics, or full songs. SO this year was my 1st year fully participating,  and it was awesome. I ended up writing a bunch of new songs,  some really good, some not so good (in my opinion), collaborated with an artist from Germany, and made some new friends. I learned that I can actually write half-songs, and move on to the next. Then I can go back and develop them into full songs, a new skill, sweet.
